Yakima in Traditional Dress

Little Star Arts and Crafts is owned by Yakima and Christina Thin Elk and features handmade Native American products made by them.

Yakima Thin Elk is a full blood Lakota Sioux from Rosebud South Dakota. Yakima is a traditional dancer and sings with the Iron Wood Singers. He is also fluent in his native language.

Yakima's grandfather was a medicine man and his father was Chief Ted Thin Elk. His father is also well known for the many movies he played in such as Thunder Heart. Yakima has firsthand knowledge of Native American culture. Yakima works as a Surveillance Observer at the Rosebud Casino.

Christina Thin Elk has lived in Northern Nebraska near the Rosebud Reservation all her life. In fall of 1992 she attended Sinte Gleska University at Rosebud to finish her B.S. in Business Administration w/minor in Tribal Management, graduating in the fall of 1995.

Christina went on to work at Social Services in Mission, South Dakota for three years. She then accepted a job with the Postal Service in Gordon, Nebraska in 2001. In April of 2004 she accepted a clerk position in Rosebud, South Dakota. In June of 2005, Christina accepted the position of Postmaster in Rosebud.

Both Yakima and Christina came from large families of 8+. They were both raised on ranches in southern South Dakota and northern Nebraska. Christina's family traveled to many rodeos throughout her childhood. She participated in rodeos from age 8 to 25.

Yakima and Christina have been together since 1997. They have one daughter Shaeyana Raine. Yakima and Christina have dreamed of their own business for some time. In August of 2004 they opened a store front in Valentine Nebraska. After six months they realized that the things they were trying to sell sold better on-line. In the spring of 2005 after Christina was named Officer in Charge at the Rosebud Post Office, they decided to close the store front so that she could pursue her Postal career fulltime.

In the couple's spare time they like to travel to pow-wows in which both Yakima and Shaeyana participate. Christina and Shaeyana like to ride horses and move cattle. Otherwise when they are not working at their jobs, they are working on things for Little Star Arts and Crafts, their online store.
